is it real or is it painted —- Rani macaw

Remember when there was the commercial, ‘Is it real or is it Memorex?”  Well this one picture is just that, real or digitally sketched.  I know it is digitally sketched, 92 hours worth, but Dan thought impossible, and only the background was altered!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, it is digitally sketched, with a sketch pad hooked up to a computer.  I took the original photo and Wijnanda Benneker fell in love with it (who wouldn’t????) and wanted to digitally sketch it for her portfolio and because she loves corgi dogs.

This is the result.  She is proud of it, and so am I, and so is her company, Corel.  What do you think?  If only Rani macaw or Kaley~corgi could speak and truly smile, I think they would!

92 hours, digitally sketched ——– that is a long time of devotion —- no matter how many hours, I am sure I could not do such a fine job, and surely I would not even attempt!  Thank you again, Wijnanda.

post Dear Jordan: Do i just randomly talk?

*

Jordan,

I’ve always wondered this about talking parrots. What makes you guys decide to say something at any given time? Is your talk just random?

Sid

Dear Sid,

First of all, I am the head talking parrot around here, even if Rani Macaw talks too.  First of all, i talk because it is entertaining, and it feels good to talk.

I also like to play the imitation game, and if i hear the truck backing up, i do the same.  If i hear the microwave, i make that sound too,  and one of my favorites, is if the phone rings, i like to be first to say, “Hello.”

sometimes ya just gotta speak up to get what ya want ‘round here!

However, i do know how to let the humans know what i want!  African greys have the mentality of a 3 year old!  So when i say, “yum, yum!”  ——–  it means, i see you eating and  i want some!  The other birds ‘round here just do the pace back and forth on the perch!  I say what i mean and i mean what i say, and if by chance you play the ignore game ———i say it louder and make it sound a little more tense!   I normally get my way, and a small bit of what the humans are eating!   And if by chance they forget to fill my bowl, i say, “yum, yum,” as well.  Sometimes one has to keep things in check!

post Funny ways parrots can sleep

For sure the conures sleep every which way at times.  There is three of them, a  sun conure, named Chiquita, a female.  There is Merlot, the maroon bellied an lil quiet male, and Bobbers, a blue crowned male.  They sleep together every night and often I wonder who is going to fit in the tent.

IMG_1835

i am sure i can hang out here for a bit!

IMG_5491

sometimes this works a bit, at least i have a roof over my head ——– or is this a towel?

IMG_4041

for sure Merlot and Chiquita are always bed time buddies!  They fit nicely inside the pup tent —– i mean bird tent!

IMG_1855

Now who can this be???? ——  one new hybrid —– hybrid ——–  sun conure with a blue crowned —— sun crowned conure???

NO, it is Bobbers and Chiquita, but they both entered the opposite end, and  Bobbers head is  down!   Could it be, he was trying to hide????

For sure, no matter how they are set up for the evening, if lights go out, they will have already found their place for the night, and all is well, and they have each others company and warmth and safety —– all night long!

how much sleep does your parrot need?

why sleep with one foot up?

post What goes on in the mind of Mrs. G?

Mrs. G, Mrs. Greenbird, Mrs. Greenburg, Jazzmine …….?????  she has a variety of names and quite frankly, i am not even sure amazon bird is a girl?????   She is a lilac crown parrot.  Anyways, she is old, i think!  She just seems old and with history.   I only wish I knew her history, for  she is a happy bird here, even though she does not beg for human touch.   She did before wander over to Dan and sit on his chest but over all, she keeps to herself and likes it here very very much.

When the birds were outside and by accident the door fell open (a food door, and yes, it fell!), she wandered out and stood by the baby/dog gate on the outside, ready to climb it and get into the house.

IMG_1653

guess it is bedtime now —– time to put me to bed!  good thing the commute will be light tonight!

Anyways, each morning she wanders out from  her bedroom basket perch, and roosts on top of the cage, alone.  Before she found the cage top, she had  a chair I had set aside for her and she knew it was her spot!  Things move here often, and she always finds her spot.  She knows it is HER SPOT, because I leave a rope for her to climb up.

Daily her schedule is climb down and short walk to the main living area to her cage top.  At night or sometimes if Dan and I nap at 6 pm, she climbs down and to the back room, basket perch ……to be with us???  When nap time is over, she will sometimes make her short climb down and walk to the main living area perch area.

IMG_1521

sometimes the commute in the morning can be heavy!   Kaley~corgi serves as traffic guard.

Question is, why does she seemingly wish to be with us, but not want us to handle her???? She gets nervous, runs from us if we try to get her, but  allows to be handled if picked up like an injured bird…..???  She is quiet and minds her own business, not fearing kaley corgi if by chance kaley blocks her path way.

i guess it is toll inspection here….???

Oh well, she is just who she is and she enjoys simple life here!  She has definitely found her forever home here

Mrs. G, coming home from long hours at the office —-even if she works from home!
